Wow, a long time has gone by without a post. Sorry about that. It's not for a lack of interesting goings on. A little too much goings on! A couple weeks ago, I mentioned that my beta version of Windows 7 was about to expire. Well, it did as expected on March 1st. Having acquired a licensed copy of Windows 7 Ultimate, I set about the arduous task of reinstalling the operating system on my laptop for the.....wait for it.....fifth time in two years. By now, it is fairly painless, but still takes about four hours. Installing the OS and transferring my files over is the easy part. Installing and configuring all of the drivers and applications is the tedious part. But, a week later, I'm happy to report that ALL of the little bugs I dealt with in the beta version are gone. I even decided to run the 64 bit version, and I have no complaints. My computer is fast, stable, and everything *gasp!* works.
About a month ago, I posted that I was going to repurpose a Dell monitor stand so I could use it with my Samsung monitor. The Dell stand was destined for the trash, but was so much nicer than the stubby, non adjustable one my monitor came with that I had to try to use it. I designed an adapter plate and asked a gracious and talented machinist named Walt to make it for me. Machinists are wizards, by the way. Part engineer, part artist, and extremely rare, machinists are among the most interesting and likeable people I have ever met. Obviously, the adapter was made perfectly, and worked like a charm.
